Solar vs Generator
What a decade of diesel actually costs, and where a hybrid setup beats replacing your generator outright.

A generator is cheap to buy and expensive to own. Solar is the inverse. Most of the disagreement between the two camps is really a disagreement about time horizon.
Run the arithmetic on fuel, servicing, oil, parts and the eventual rebuild across five years, and the diesel figure is usually several times the sticker price of the generator. Solar front-loads that spend and then flattens it.
Generators do have one genuine advantage: they do not care about weather or state of charge. For sites with heavy, unpredictable industrial peaks, the honest answer is a hybrid — solar and storage carrying the base load, generator held as a backstop that rarely starts.
The goal for most homes and small businesses is not generator purity. It is getting fuel consumption low enough that the generator stops being part of daily life.
